The Unstare app is licensed to you under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These Terms add to it; where they conflict on the app license, the Standard EULA applies.
Who we are#
The Unstare app and unstare.com are provided by Umair Hassan. You can contact us at contact@unstare.com.
What Unstare does#
Unstare is a tool for managing your own screen time. It relies on Apple’s Screen Time, camera and notification frameworks, and iOS decides when their events arrive, so timing can vary and a lock can occasionally be late or missed. You can always remove locks — with an emergency pass, by revoking Screen Time access, or by deleting the app. Unstare isn’t a parental-control or security product. Don’t use it to lock apps you may need for emergencies, navigation, health, safety or work.
Safety#
Start an eye break only when it’s safe to close your eyes. Never while driving, cycling, walking, operating machinery, or looking after someone who needs your attention.
Wellness, not medical advice#
Unstare isn’t a medical device and doesn’t diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. Talk to an eye-care professional about any symptoms.
Using Unstare#
Use Unstare on devices you own or manage, to manage your own use. If you can’t form a binding contract where you live, use it with a parent’s or guardian’s permission.
Subscriptions and free trial#
Locking apps needs an active Unstare Premium subscription: yearly, with a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, or monthly. The free trial is available until December 31, 2027. The App Store shows the prices, including taxes, before you buy.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, or when the free trial ends. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and renewal is charged within the 24 hours before it ends. You can manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or in Unstare → Settings → Subscription → Manage; access lasts until the paid period ends.
A free trial that you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before it ends becomes a paid yearly subscription. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription. Apple announces price changes in advance and asks for your agreement where required. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com; EU and UK consumers may also have a statutory right of withdrawal under Apple’s Media Services Terms. When a subscription ends, Unstare stops monitoring and removes all locks. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription.
Privacy#
See our Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use#
Don’t copy, modify or reverse engineer Unstare except as the law allows, get around its protections, use it to monitor or restrict another person without their consent, or use it unlawfully.
Intellectual property#
The Unstare name, logo, app and website content belong to Umair Hassan. Third-party trademarks belong to their owners, and no affiliation or endorsement is implied. Apple, the Apple logo, iPhone and iPad are trademarks of Apple Inc.; App Store is a service mark of Apple Inc.
Changes#
Features may change. If a change significantly reduces what you pay for, we’ll tell you in advance where the law requires it, and you can cancel. Updated Terms get a new date here.
Disclaimers#
As far as the law allows, Unstare is provided “as is”: locks may not trigger at exact times, and an eye check may not always recognize closed eyes. Nothing here limits your statutory consumer rights.
Liability#
As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for Unstare in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to exclude.
Ending use#
You can stop at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting the app.
Governing law#
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain. As a consumer, you keep the mandatory protections of the country where you live and may bring claims in its courts. Please contact us first so we can try to fix things. There’s no link to the EU online dispute resolution platform; it closed on 20 July 2025.
